Head and Neck Reconstruction

Cancers of the head and neck are common.  Many patients with head and neck cancer require combinations of radiation and surgery for treatment.  Removal of these cancers can often result in large defects of the facial soft tissues or skeleton.

Dr. Purnell and his partners offer a full spectrum of reconstructive options for the treatment of these challenging defects, including free microvascular flap reconstruction of the bones and soft tissues or the movement of tissues of the face and neck (local flaps) for coverage.  They are happy to coordinate with your cancer surgeon to plan the best reconstruction for each individual patient.  Our goals are to restore a patients normal facial appearance, ability to eat, and breathe normally, as much as possible.
